Tim Cook: “Stay Tuned” For Possible Apple-Facebook Integration

Echoing comments that he made earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said again on Tuesday that a deeper integration of Facebook into Apple products might be on the way.

Cook appeared at the D10 Conference last night and told Walt Mossberg and KaraSwisher that Apple has “great appreciation” and “great respect” for Facebook.

When asked why Apple’s iOS has very deep Twitter integration, but not the same with Facebook, Cook said, “I think we can do more with them [Facebook] and, so, just stay tuned on this one.” He later expanded on that idea:

We want to provide customers simple and elegant ways to do the things they want to do. And Facebook has millions — hundreds of millions of customers. So, anybody that has an iPhone or an iPad, we want them to have the best experience with Facebook on those platforms. So, stay tuned.

Cook made similar comments during Apple’s shareholders’ meeting back in February, when he told attendees, “I’ve always thought that the two companies could do more together.”

Apple is expected to release its new desktop OS, Mountain Lion, next month. It’ll include many of the features that iOS has, including the integrated Twitter sharing tools. So far, other than Cook’s cryptic suggestion to “stay tuned,” there’s no word about similar integration with Facebook.

Here’s the full video of Cook’s comments about Facebook (and a few other items) from the D10 event last night.
