Strike That From The News Feed: Facebook Now Allows Users To Edit Posts

It’s happened to everyone at one time or another. It might have been an ill-conceived auto-correct, an errant vowel, grammar goof, or maybe just an unpropitious update. Have no fear fellow Facebookers, the ability to update posts is now here to save the day.

Right now, all Facebook posts can be edited on the web or Android versions with the functionality rolling out to iOS soon.  To edit a post users can simply click on the “edit” link in the upper right of the update:

Once selected, the post will have the ability to be updated quickly and saved:

One of the trickiest elements of Facebook updates is the fact that an updated post could potentially dupe users. Let’s say you were a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan and you liked a post that stated “Like if you want the Cowboys to win this weekend!” Well, if that post is changed to “Like if you want the Cowboys to lose this weekend!” users are now endorsing something that they didn’t mean to.  While this is a mild example, it is a very tricky topic.

Facebook has broached this by keeping all versions of the update stored and accessible. If you edit a post it will be shown as “Edited” and all revisions will be displayed.

So look for the ability to edit posts (but know that history will not forget our errors) on the Facebook for Android app and the web versions with iOS coming soon.
