Simplified Hashtags With Built In Definitions Spotted In Twitter Test

How often do you see a hashtag then scroll through dozens of Tweets just to uncover the meaning? Well that may be coming to an end in the near future as the Wall Street Journal has uncovered a promising new Twitter test.

Better-Hashtags

In this test, a hashtag search in iOS showed not only the Tweets associated with the hashtag but also a brief definition. This would be a big step for getting folks to join in the conversation while also saving time in finding out what exactly is trending. The curation and filtering options have been a thorn in the side of Twitter when it comes to gaining new users and this simple step would be a big improvement for Twitter newbies.

It will be interesting to see how this test plays out as there are more than a handful of vulgar or profane trending hashtags on any given day. Additionally, keeping up with the hashtags could be a burden as every event, show or happening has their own hashtag these days. Overall thought, this is a simple yet effective UI change  that we’d hope sticks around.
