Report: Twitter To Release Ads API This Quarter

In 2013, it’s estimated that

Twitter will surpass the half billion mark in ad revenue for the first time. Since launch in 2010, Twitter has scaled up ad revenue with nearly 100% growth year after year. TechCrunch reports that they may be releasing a new ads API that would help incite the ad growth even further.

A Twitter API would be a boon for big brands and firms, as custom advertising systems can be created with more advanced reporting, analytics and targeting. This API release was hinted at back in September when Twitter released the new API 1.1. In the initial API 1.1 terms, it was stated that:

Twitter reserves the right to serve advertising via its APIs (“Twitter Ads”). If you decide to serve Twitter Ads once we start delivering them, we will share a portion of advertising revenue with you per our then-current terms and conditions.

From ongoing globalization efforts to additional advertising markets, Twitter has been active lately, and a IPO looks to be in the near future. Facebook has had an ads API since August of 2011, and LinkedIn released their API in November of 2012. It’s estimated that Twitter will hit the $1 billion ad revenue mark in 2014, and an ads API will be a huge step in the right direction for large brands and paid agencies.

Twitter did not give TechCrunch an official comment on the release. For more information, see TechCrunch.
