Report: Twitter Seeking Partnerships With NBC & Viacom For Online TV Distribution

Twitter has been busy diversifying services in what looks to be a clear path that leads to an IPO. This year alone, Twitter has announced video services like the

Vine iPhone app, to Twitter Music, an ads API to global expansion. Today, Bloomberg reports that Twitter is in the process of featuring television content online with partnership talks with Viacom and NBC Universal.

According to the report, the partnerships would allow Twitter to stream videos and clips with ad revenue being split between entities. Rumors have a deal date for one or more deals by mid-May of this year. Twitter has recently worked with NBC during the Summer Olympics – tracking more than 150 million posts during the event.

Of course, Twitter is a perfect fit for coupling with TV due to its real-time nature, but this would be more of a venture into a comprehensive media platform. The relative success of Vine has shown that video works within the Twitter platform and clips/shows would be a logical foray that would likely behoove the networks and the platforms.
