When I first started running my own online business I must admit marketing was not my top priority. I was so busy setting up the website and putting operational processes in place I just outsourced my entire marketing strategy to a specialist company.
This expert service was very successful at marketing my new business and saved me a lot of time and hassle. However by outsourcing my marketing I was not actually learning how to do this myself. When it came time to cut back on the expert services I was using to save overhead I realised I just didn’t have the skills and understanding to maintain the successful marketing the experts had put in place.
Expert Services
I was just one of the many people that took expert marketers for granted. They made it look so easy I just assumed I could take over and run the marketing myself to save costs. This was a big mistake and I quickly found that the time and expertise it takes to run a successful marketing campaign was way out of my league.
Fortunately the marketing experts I had previously used offered training for businesses. I enrolled on a few courses and resolved to learn what I needed to know to run my marketing campaigns for the better.
Psychological Reasoning
One of the most important things I learnt in my marketing training is that the art of marketing is about understanding the psychology of your audience. You need to understand what motivates them in order to tap into power ways to engage and entice them.
– This makes sense when you consider that the majority of purchases people make are motivated by emotional responses. – Many products and services are in reality non-essential. This means they do not cover basic needs such as food or shelter. – I learnt to look behind consumerism and see what drives people to buy items they don’t really need and also why they choose one product over another. – When you understand the psychological triggers that cause people to make purchases you can target your whole marketing strategies so much more effectively.
Desire
Desire is a powerful emotional trigger. When people desire something it means they will be willing to overlook a number of other factors in order to get what they want. One of the best things I ever learnt was how to create desire for my product. This can be an exceptionally powerful selling tactic when used properly. In consumer terms desire is frequently achieved by making something the latest ‘must have’ purchase.
– With the right marketing desire can be created that can entice people into buying items they would not normally consider. – When a craze for a certain product or service begins a large majority of people will rush out and buy even if they do not actually need or really want it. – For example many toys suddenly develop into ‘must have’ items around Christmas time. People will scour the shops and even pay over the odds just to get these items. – Desire to own the product or try the service will overtake reasoning and create a highly motivational buying environment. – With the right marketing campaign you can create a real sense of desire for your product. This can take your business to the next level and ensure you are hitting those powerful emotional triggers to boost your sales.
If you want to achieve powerful and motivational marketing campaigns then it is worth taking a few lessons. I found tuition from marketing experts is essential in understanding the market and focusing my own future strategies.
