Portable Toilet Hire – 10 Things You Need To Consider

The modern society we live in provides many forms of technology which make life easier. New technology springs up nearly every day so it is easy to take some things for granted, such as sanitation.

However, if you are in the event industry or on a construction site you will begin to realise how fundamentally important having and providing adequate toilet facilities really stands in this modern era.

This article will look at 10 things you need to know about portable toilet hire and why each is an important factor to consider.

1. Quantity – perhaps the most important and debated point especially to big event organisers such for festivals and big events. How many do I need? What is the right amount of portable toilets you need in relevance to how many attendees you have? My advice would be to ask the portable toilet hire company you are getting the quote from, if they have experience with dealing with festivals they should know the right amount of toilets you need to keep your attendees happy. Having less than required just to save abit of money could backfire when your guests are fed up queuing for the toilet.

2. Access – Another important factor is the actual delivery of the portable toilets. You need to make sure that there is suitable access for the company to deliver. Ask them how the toilets will be delivered and if they have specific requirements that need to be met, especially if you have ordered quite a few. You don’t want to have the company turn up with no way of them getting the toilets to where they need to be. As we all know the Great British weather can turn quickly and render sites in accessible that do not have adequate ground conditions for vehicles, so placing toilets on a hill or incline is completely out of the question.

3. Servicing – If the toilets are on a long term hire they will need to be serviced, you may also choose to have them serviced once over a festival period just to make sure they are in a nice a clean manner for your guests to use. No one like smelly toilets. Some portable companies are in the position to offer this or you may have to look elsewhere to get them serviced and emptied.

4. Price – This is the main factor for most organisers. With the amount of portable toilet companies there are you can try 100’s to get the “best deal” however, the cheapest aren’t always the best. If you have used someone in the past that you were happy with just because someone may offer you the toilets cheaper doesn’t mean you should go with them. You should also consider their reputation; do they have testimonials from previous clients etc. do they offer guaranteed delivery times? Emergency call out services? Are there hidden fees for delivery, installation, servicing and collection? So be sure to ask them when getting the quote, if they are good they will tell you this upfront.

5. Location of Toilets – Where are the toilets going to be placed? And remember the delivery trucks need access to wherever you want them. They also need to be strategically placed to keep your guests happy so some by campsites, main stages, bars etc. Just so guests have somewhere to go that isn’t far away. At construction sites you will need to make sure the toilet doesn’t obstruct the work.

6. What type do you need? – There are a few different types of toilets you can choose to hire, if you have hired them before you will know which one you need. However if you haven’t hired them before the main types of portable toilets are Self-contained Cold Wash, self-contained host wash (which will need an electrical supply), Mains portable toilet, which can connect to a sewage line. Self-contained Disabled portable toilets are also available, as well as urinal bays. Depending what you need the toilets for will depend on what type you can have, if you are not sure just ask the company you are thinking of using and they should be able to explain everything to you. You can also get self-contained shower units from man suppliers which are a must and festival or overnight events.

7. Are they going to be safe? – Some hire companies may provide insurance for their portable toilets, which you may have to pay extra for. However others will give you the responsibility of keeping the toilet safe if it gets damage it is your money that will be fixing it, if it needs replacing again it will be your money. Therefore you need to do your best to ensure the toilets will be kept safe, this may be more difficult at festivals. Although some companies will provide onsite attendance to ensure the toilets are in a satisfactory condition.

8. What you get with the hire? – Generally when the units are delivered they will have Loo roll paper towels (if sink fitted) or hand sanitizer, if you have the toilet for long term hire when you will need to have the toilet serviced, when the toilet is serviced the hire company should replace all the accessories that came with the toilet in the first place.

9. Delivery – When do you want the toilets to arrive? Stating the obvious, you need to ensure the toilets are there before they are needed. Ensuring they are ready to be used either the moment guests arrive or the first day that construction starts.

10. Collection – Most hire companies will endeavour to collect the toilets as soon as possible after the hire period is over, however it may take us up to 5 working days to collect the toilets in which time the toilets are still the responsibility of you the customer. You may be able to request a certain delivery day and again make sure there is still access for the collection vehicle to have access to the toilets.
