Pinterest announced yesterday it will be launching a new “related Pins” feature that adds recommended Pins in a user’s home feed.
According to the announcement, Pinterest will make selections for recommended pins based on Pins a user has liked or saved in the past:
So if you’ve been collecting recipes for your big holiday feast, we might show you a related Pin for fool-proof pie crust, or the perfect double-stuffed sweet potato.
Users can influence the type of related Pins showing up in their feed by clicking the “i” info icon. Pinterest says it will begin slowly, including “just a few Pins” in feeds, and encourages users to rate related Pins so that Pin recommendations (and, most likely Promoted Pins) become more relevant.
