New In iOS 8: Sharing Is Much Easier To Pinterest, HootSuite & Other Apps

apple-ios8-sharing

It’s long been an iPhone and iPod pain point. Sharing from a mobile browser to social media networks other than Facebook and Twitter has been a serious pain, requiring a copy-and-paste workaround that seemed downright medieval in the Internet time scale.

But with the iOS 8 update, that’s all changed. Now, you can add sharing buttons to Pinterest or Hootsuite — or any other network with a mobile app that has hooked itself into the new Apple OS.

With iOS 8, Apple opened its built-in share extensions to developers beyond partners such as Facebook and Twitter. Pinterest and Hootsuite — and Instapaper and Evernote, among others — have already updated their apps. No doubt anyone with a content sharing app will follow.

Accessing the new feature couldn’t be simpler for users; here are the steps provided in a Pinterest blog post:

  1. Update your phone to iOS 8

  2. From Safari or Chrome, tap the Share button

  3. Swipe to the left and tap More

  4. Tap to turn on Pinterest

  5. Drag Pinterest up if you want to reorder your menu

As mentioned in the above steps, users can adjust the sharing icons to favor the networks or services they use most often. The ability to customize the order makes the feature arguably better than what Android offers. Android long has given users the ability to share to apps from mobile browsers, but there’s no changing the alphabetical order of the options.
