Huge Header Images, Pinned Tweets & Better Filters Highlight Twitter’s New Profile Design

Last month we found out that one of the biggest reasons that folks quit Twitter is due to the lack of sorting, filtering and media. Today Twitter has announced new profile pages that should curtail concerns thanks to a handful of bold new features.

The most noticeable change is the colossal profile header picture that spans full width across the monitor. While users may notice the header first, some of the biggest functionality that will appease users falls beneath. New profiles will allow users to pin Tweets to the top of the page, something that disrupts the chronological timeline for the first time ever. Pinned Tweets have a small blue icon above the Tweet and one Tweet can be pinned at a time.

Another boon for new Twitter users is that with the new profiles, Tweets can also be filtered easier. Users can view three options for consuming Tweets:

  1. Tweets

  2. Tweets with Photos/Videos

  3. Tweets & Replies

Lastly, any Tweet with more engagement will now gain more real estate. Those Tweets with more engagement will show up larger making important updates easier to spot when viewing a profile:

The new profile is currently available to a small group of users and will be rolling out to all in the “coming weeks.” A few profiles that have access right now are Weezer, Zac Efron, & Michelle Obama.
