One of the more captivating features released during Google’s I/O event in May was Google Photos. The service that includes face recognition, custom animations and significant photo organization also put the writing on the wall — Google+ Photos remaining time was limited. Come August 1st, Google+ Photos will no longer exist.
Users of Google+ Photos will have the ability to seamlessly transition to mobile management by installing the Google Photo app. If a user simply doesn’t do anything with their Google+ Photo account all photos will be available on photos.google.com and Google Takeout automatically.
Of course this is just another step that marks the lack of focus on the Google+ project. Photos were arguably the greatest area where Google+ excelled over competitors. Removing this functionality is yet another reason to avoid spending your marketing efforts on the dying network.
Some active Google+ users are calling for the same advanced editing features on Google and Photospheres support. Google +has not yet officially addressed these issues.
