Google has added another executive with retail experience to its Google Glass management team.
Late Thursday night, the company announced that Ivy Ross will become the first Head of Google Glass — the person in charge of the overall Glass division. Ross will start at Google on Monday (May 19).
She has VP-level experience at The Gap, Old Navy and Mattel, in addition to being the Chief Creative Officer at The Disney Store. Most recently, Ross was CMO at Art.com. She talked about that experience in a letter to current Glass Explorers:
I have spent my career — Calvin Klein, Swatch, Coach, Mattel, Bausch & Lomb, Gap and, most recently, Art.com — at the intersection of design and marketing, trying to answer questions like this in different ways, for different products. But Glass is especially cool, as no one has really tried to answer them with a product like this before.
Last week, we reported that Chris O’Neill would leave his role as the chief of Google Canada to take over business operations for the Glass division.
Together, it looks like Google is beefing up the Glass division in preparation for a wider consumer launch of the device later this year.
