Flickr Teams With Pinterest For Easy Sharing & Proper Attribution

Ever since it’s rise in popularity Pinterest has drawn a good deal of criticism around attribution (or lack thereof).  Today Flickr has announced a partnership of sorts that allow users to pin Flickr photos with proper attribution directly from Flickr.  This comes as a surprise to many as Flickr was actually the first major site to implement a “nopin” META tag to keep Pinners from sharing content.

By clicking on the Pinterest button (or the share dropdown) a user can choose to share on Pinterest:

Once shared on Pinterest, the photo title, user account and location (Flickr) is pulled in along with the pin:

Look for more attribution integration coming soon to Pinterest as in the official blog post they state:

“Attribution is a work in progress and we’ll continue to add additional sources. In fact, today we’re also rolling out attribution for BehanceVimeo and YouTube. We’re excited to make it easier to credit and connect with the creators of the beautiful things you discover on Pinterest”

For more information, see the official Pinterest announcement.
