Recognizing that many people are wary about sharing their online identities, Facebook announced an anonymous login feature for mobile apps today at the F8 conference in San Francisco.
“We know that some people are scared about pressing this blue button,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, pointing to an image of the normal Facebook sign-on, during his keynote address.
The new feature, which is being testing with a limited number of developers with plans to roll it out further in the next few months, will allow users to sign into apps they want to try out or use without sharing their full Facebook data.
Anonymous Login lets people log in to apps so they don’t have to remember usernames and passwords, but it doesn’t share personal information from Facebook. People can decide later if they want to share any additional information, once they understand more about the app.

Facebook also announced that is enhancing the login screen to give users more choices about the information that they share with the app, and a central place for people to see and manage the apps they use.
The new login features will also be rolling out in the next few months. Here’s Facebook description about the new login:
Today we introduced a new version of Login. With the new Login, people can select the data an app gets by unchecking categories of information, one by one. For example, if someone wants to share their email address with an app, but not their birthday, they can make that choice with a couple taps.
