Facebook’s Buy Button Test Is Powered By Stripe’s Technology

Started in July, Facebook’s “Buy” button, which gives users the ability to purchase directly from posts and ads in their News Feed, is still in test mode and the social network is staying quiet about when it will be given wider release.

But we now have more information about who will be providing the underlying technology. Payments startup Stripe is the sole partner in the test, Re/code reported this week.

That’s notable because Stripe has recently inked deals with some of the most prominent operators in the social-mobile payment space. The four-year-old San Francisco-based startup is also working with Twitter on its buy button test and is one of six companies Apple is recommending for its coming-in-October Pay service.

Facebook has partnered with other payment companies in the past, including PayPal’s mobile unit Braintree on its “autofill” feature for in-app game and the now-defunct Facebook Gifts. Stripe also was one of the original autofill partners.
