A major upgrade has occurred for Facebook’s Graph Search – the ability to search posts and updates on top of the preexisting functionality. Users will be able to search posts by topic, location and time with the usual Graph Search modifiers. The results returned will soon include status updates, photo captions, check-ins and comments.
This change takes Graph Search from a cute feature to a powerful tool. Users will now be able to see the content of others, not just locations/pages/apps, etc. A graph search will now be useful for querying the sentiment of their friends and the Facebook community.
Some examples (and formatting) of Graph Search post searches are:
Topics you’re interested in [“Posts about SEO by my friends”]
Posts about a city, place or from a certain time [“Posts written at the Javits Center”]
Posts you want to see again [“Posts I commented on” or “My posts from 2012”]
This is not only helpful for viewing the content of others, but also for sifting through your own content. In a way Facebook’s Graph Search can now work similarly to Twitter Archive. Simply search for your posts, add a date, and see your very own results:
The posts that Graph Search indexes will only be those posts that were shared with users. Anything that is public however (or has suitable permission levels) will be included.
According to Facebook the improved Graph Search is rolling out to “a small group of people who currently have Graph Search” while they listen to feedback.
