Facebook Augments Development Platform With Alerts For Developers & Groups For Apps And Games

Facebook made many a developer jump for joy last week as a handful of changes were rolled out to aid in development. The two most notable implementations were the ability to create groups around a specific app or game and the addition of alerts for developers’ apps.

The new developer alerts will deliver messages to the people listed as admins to the app when a number of actions occur. The developer alerts will be triggered on the following actions:

  1. Breaking changes – If functionality is being removed or changed that affects an app, an alert will be delivered. These reminders will come at 60, 30 and 0 days from the removal/change.

  2. App status changes – Any Open Graph actions that have been submitted will be updates with alerts.

  3. Policy violations/enforcement – When an app is found to not comply to platform policies and alert will be sent.

Instead of hacking together tabs on specific game pages, Facebook developers can now create official groups for games and apps. These groups will allow for official community interaction as games will be able to invite players to specific groups. Facebook stated the following about the rollout:

To ensure a high quality experience for users, we’re making this feature available as a beta to all apps and games listed in App Center, and will continue to iterate over time. You can get started now by reading our concepts and reference documentation.
