Everybody Loves Google; Only One-Third View Twitter Favorably

Google is the most popular major tech company in America, slightly besting Apple, while Facebook lags far behind those two. Twitter polls the worst of the four, with only about one-third of Americans saying they view the company favorably.

The data comes from a recent ABC/Washington Post poll of 1,007 U.S. adults that asked the question:

Overall, do you have a favorable or unfavorable impression of (ITEM)? Do you feel that way strongly or somewhat?

Only four tech companies were included in the poll, and Google bested Apple with 82 percent overall favorability compared to Apple’s 74 percent.

The Google figure is similar to the survey we recently ran using Google’s own Consumer Surveys product; in that survey of 1,500 people, nearly 80 percent said they trust Google as much or more than they did a year ago.

What’s Up With Twitter?

In the ABC/WaPo poll, only 34 percent say they view Twitter favorably and 36 percent view the company unfavorably. But maybe the most telling number is that 31 percent had no opinion — a stat that suggests many adults aren’t familiar enough with Twitter to have a positive or negative view. Twitter’s “no opinion” number jumps to 51 percent of senior citizens who answered the question.

Not to put too much weight on one survey question, but this does seem to suggest that, despite Twitter’s increasing presence in some areas (Super Bowl ads, for example), it still has a long way to go to reach the awareness levels that Facebook, Apple and Google have.
