The Daily Show has aimed its comedic barbs at some of the biggest tech/marketing players over the years (like
Google, Google+, Facebook, Instagram and Google Glass), and last night LinkedIn had its turn in the unflattering-but-funny spotlight.
John Oliver, who’s subbing in as host for Jon Stewart, went on a rant about getting too many LinkedIn emails. He mouthed his “unsubscribe” command, told LinkedIn to leave him alone and then ended his rant with the classic line, “You seem to have monetized irritating people!”
It happened during a segment about the ongoing privacy/NSA/PRISM debate. The relevant part begins at about the 30-second mark in the clip below and runs for about 35 seconds.
Congratulations, LinkedIn. Mentioned on The Daily Show. Now you’ve made it.
How To Unsubscribe From LinkedIn Emails
On the highly off-chance that John Oliver finds this article in his Google vanity alerts, here’s a quick pointer on how to stop getting emails from LinkedIn. (It’s quite simple, really.)
Once you’re logged in, click the “Privacy & Settings” option under your avatar in the upper right.
On that page, click the “Communications” tab from the options on the lower left.
Bam! All of your LinkedIn email settings in one place. Just click “No Email” on any/all and you’re set. Much more effective than mouthing “Unsubscribe!” on TV. And if you want to tell viewers tonight how to do this, we’d love some credit for Marketing Land.
