If you’re a man you’ve probably experienced that embarrassing moment when your co-workers, boss or kids have caught you browsing Pinterest — whose audience is 69% female, according to comScore.
But many an embarrassed man also knows that Pinterest is a great place to look for home improvement ideas. With that in mind, Colorado-based bank FirstBank, with help from agency TDA_Boulder, has launched Man-O-Flage, a browser plugin that disguises the Pinterest page so men can enjoy embarrassment-free browsing.
The idea is to tap into viewers’ pride of homeownership as they view these projects — and to have them think of FirstBank when they’re looking for mortgage loans.
The plugin places one of three skins –Meats, Power Tools or Sporting — over the Pinterest page.
The skins allow just one Pinterest image to show at a time — the one under the cursor. All other potentially embarrassing photos are replaced by images such as raw beef, drill bits, a fly tackle box or the like. All Pinterest text shows, through, so the men can still see where to look next.
Here’s a video — appearing on the bank’s YouTube page as well as pre-roll on Hulu and YuMe — introducing the plugin and the Man-O-Flage page:
