Apple: People Spent $10 Billion On Apps In 2013

Apps have turned into a nice little business for Apple. This morning the company issued a

press release stating that app store users spent more than $10 billion on apps and digital content for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad in 2013.

Under its 70/30 rule, Apple would have kept roughly $3 billion of that revenue.

In the month of December alone the company said that users spent more than $1 billion and downloaded three billion apps. Overall, Apple says it has now paid developers more than $15 billion — roughly half of which would have come this past year.

According to app analytics provider App Annie, Google Play has more overall downloads today (because of its larger user base) but Apple apps generate roughly 2X the revenue.
