54% Of Americans Post Original Photos Online & 18% Of Those With A Cell Phone Use Instagram

It’s official. If you are a connected adult and you don’t post original photos online, you are now in the minority. A new report by Pew Internet shows that 54% of online adults share original photo content online.

This number jumped 8% from the 46% of users that shared original “created” content in 2012. The age group that posts the most original content is hands down the 18-29 year old segment, with 81% posting photos or videos. Curated content has also rose drastically as well. Now 47% of those online re-post other photos and videos, also up 8% from last year.

The content that’s been created or curated isn’t just photos either. Video posting is up eight percent, as 26% of people now post video online. The 18-29 year old demo again leads the way with a 56% adoption rate of those sharing others’ video on the web.

The driving force behind this, may just be the growth of social oriented mobile apps. A whopping 18% of cell phone users now use Instagram for both video and photo sharing and 9% use one-time video viewing app Snapchat. Instagram users are fairly heavy users as well with 24% using the app several times a day and 36% using at least once a day.
